Rosie's Place Community Garden Rebuilds Homeless Women’s Lives
Rosie's Place community garden is a place where homeless women are flourishing. Rosie's Place was founded in 1974 as the first women’s shelter in the United States. Their mission is to provide a safe and nurturing environment that helps poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives. Rosie’s Place has a plethora of workshops and opportunities that help women get back on their feet and teach them life skills. One of those programs is their community garden. Women from Rosie’s Place plant seeds in the community garden each spring and then in the late summer the fruits of their labor are harvested. The produce they have grown is used to feed the residents as well as provided to individuals coming to their food bank. Rosie’s Place not only provides meals and shelter but also creates answers for 12,000 women a year through wide-ranging support, housing and education services.
