Creating Art at 2200 Degrees
Occurred on June 15, 2019 / Seattle, Washington, USA
Info from Licensor: "Jesse England and Minhi Winkempleck are multimedia artists that work individually and collaboratively. In this video, the pair are creating a piece of Jesse's entitled 'Clementine no. 2' in their backyard glass studio. Jesse began by creating a steel base, and then blowing a glass bubble. The pair filled a ceramic crucible with copper, and then placed it into the glory hole to heat up. In the video we see Minhi removing the liquid copper, around 2,200 degrees Fahrenheit, from the glory hole and carefully pouring it into the bubble that Jesse is turning. The copper eventually cools down enough to stop moving, at which point Jesse runs it over to the steel base and presses the glass and steel together, for a solid contact area. The glass and copper were then placed in an annealing oven to cool down to room temperature, over the course of a day. Jesse will display the finished sculpture at an upcoming exhibition."
