12 foot Dolly Dimples still greets customers at Valvo's in Silver Creek
You can't miss Valvo's Candies & Unique gifts on RT. 5 in Silver Creek. The family run business features a 12 foot greeter out front named Dolly Dimples. Valvo's celebrates it's 100th anniversary this year. Joe & Elizabeth Valvo ran things for much of that time. Joe was a self-taught candy maker. They sold wholesale until Elizabeth came up with the idea of turning the place into a gift shop. Busloads of customers visit Valvo's these days and mostly what people notice here is that the place is huge and filled with a lot of stuff. Sadly Joe passed away last year. Joe and Elizabeth's daughter Susan has taken over the operation. Susan says she was worried at first, adding "I was really scared to run the business the first year but I did really well." Valvo's Unique Candies & Gifts is on RT. 5 in Silver Creek. You can find more information on their website.
