“The Bells,” Game of Thrones‘ second-to-last episode, generated a mix of emotions after its premiere.
Fans were very confused about Daenerys Targaryen’s actions during the King’s Landing madness.
However, Conleth Hill, the actor who plays Lord Varys, was “frustrated” about his character’s cruel exit.
Hill said he had mixed feelings about Lord Varys’ execution following accusations of treason.
He said he took Lord Varys’ death to heart, however, he was incredibly proud of his character’s decision.
“You can’t help feeling that you failed in some way, that you haven’t lived up to some expectation that you didn’t know about.”
Hill backed Varys’ decision to urge for another Iron Throne contender to determine the fate of Westeros.
Game of Thrones’ final episode premieres on Sunday, May 19 at 9 p.m. EST on HBO.
