House of Ruth Maryland hosts 18th annual Spring Luncheon
House of Ruth held its 18th annual Spring Luncheon Thursday. The event was not only to celebrate the organization's success, but to also raise awareness and money to support their programs. The non-profit helps victims of domestic violence in Maryland. “We serve every year 9,000 victims and about 500 or so of their children," said Sandi Timmins, Executive Director of House of Ruth. "With comprehensive services. Everything from an emergency shelter when the situation is lethal through counseling services, legal services. We have a 24-hour hotline, we have therapists on staff for children and for the women as well, other people who are victims as well.” This year's special guest was Pulitzer Prize winning journalist, Megan Twohey. She was one of the authors of the New York Time investigative articles that exposed Harvey Weinstien and led to the #metoo movement. The movement helped make it possible for long-suffering victims of sexual assault to speak out. The event was also emceed by WMAR-2 News' Christian Schaffer.
