Police rescue man trapped in apartment fire
West Valley City police released the body camera footage of two officers who helped a man escape through his window after his apartment caught fire early Monday morning.
The two officers were on scene during the fire at the Decker Lake Apartments, according to a press release issued by Public Information Officer Roxeanne Vainuku.
Officer Joshua Cook was the first officer to arrive on the scene and the first to report the fire.
After banging on doors to notify residents of the fire and assist them in evacuating, Cook used his patrol vehicle to knock down a fence, then positioned his vehicle next to the burning building so that other officers could stand on it and use it to gain access to a man trapped on the 2nd floor.
Officer Oscar DeLeo's camera shows officers working to persuade the man to jump from the building and holding him as he is lowered to safety.
