Local talent showcased in portraits exhibit at Burchfield Penny Art Center
It's a bigger than life collection of some of the area's best artists. There are fourteen artists represented in "Contemporary Portraiture" at the Burchfield Penny Art Center. According to curator Scott Propeack the exhibit "ranges all the different media and artist can use." Artist John Baker has a series of paintings that he did hoping to "do a children's book on the Negro Baseball League." John's work has been seen recently on the Freedom Wall. The series on display in this exhibit showcases his his unique style and provides a history lesson about ball players like Frank Grant. Grant was the first African-American to play ball with The Buffalo Bisons in 1887. According to Scott Propeack "each artist was selected because their work stood out in a different way"
