Cat's Brain Shuts Down When Owner Tosses Cheese At It

The good thing about writing about the sliced cheese challenge is that no cats were harmed in the making of this video. At least, none that have ever been reported. It could be that when the challenge really did go astray (see what I did there), the video was just conveniently deleted.

This poor feline really goes all drama queen when its owner tosses a slice onto the top of its head. It lands like a perfect ring toss right between its ears. The shocked cat shakes to the left, shimmies to the right, but nothing dislodges the cheese!

“What the hey, man!” it seems to want to say, then tractors backward like a cat-erpillar.

“Here I am, doing my favorite hobby—which happens to be watching other people, when some clown comes along and throws food on my head!” Yes, cat, you’ve been pranked!
It’s not clear who started this latest video craze, or when. It’s not even 100% clear why people have suddenly turned on the cat world for their jollies, but in any case, they do elicit a humorous reaction. We can feel sorry for the cat, up to a point. Maybe there’s a point at which play becomes torment, kind of like tickling somebody’s foot, but doing it once or twice to your beloved cat probably won’t damage it beyond all recognition.

The poor guy holds the cheese in place by aiming its face at the ceiling. It’s just not too bright. It was caught unawares (“Why would you do this to me?”) and doesn’t seem to know what to do. Eventually, after backing up a few paces on the top of the couch (one of the most normal places for a cat to be, after all) the cheese falls off.

Now let’s get a good look at this thing! The first question is, what is it? I know this is what people and dogs eat, but do I really want to take a bite out of it? Look here cat: don’t lecture us humans about not playing with our food. It’s you cats that taught us everything we know about playing with food, so don’t get all sanctimonious when we rip a page from your play book.

Cats have a reputation for acting like royal prima donnas around the house, but this one seems to be a good sport about the whole thing. It’s probably dreaming up some sweet little revenge as we read this.
