Massive Elk Herd Majestically Crosses Road In Oregon
The east side of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon is a strange but fascinating landscape of a barren land that is colorful and hills that span hundreds of miles. While most people think of Oregon as a lush forested area, luxuriant trees, waterfalls, coastal slopes and snow-capped mountains. But once you set foot on the east side of the Cascade Mountains, most of the landscape here is arid, vegetation only full of shrubs. Little is known, John Day Basin in the central high desert of Oregon is also part of the arid shrub and it also possesses some of the world's most beautiful landscapes, with hills and lands Colorful barren lasts hundreds of miles.
Although like any other place on this planet, most John Day catchments are surrounded by breeding farms and natural resource exploitation areas. It is a five million acre area, of a scientific and scientific importance of a national park, but its only 14,000 acres are protected as part of the Nationalized Monument. John Day Fossil Beds jelly.
The focal point of the fossil National Monument is the spectacular Painted Hill. Unlike the so-called red sandstone of Southwest America, it is actually orange and yellow. The streaks of the hills here are made up of volcanic deposits. In ancient times, when volcanoes were active in this area, ash and volcanic minerals covered the layers of outer layers of shale hills. Various minerals form different sprawling colors for Painted Hills. Not only depending on the season, the Painted Hills also has the ability to change colors from time to time of the day and also depends on soil moisture.
The Painted Hills Overlook Trail is a half mile walk around the hill with a height change of only 100ft. The valley of red, yellow and black looks like an injured earth without attractive models and gradual slopes into the surface of the hill.
Visible stratified layers on the trail reveal a terrain language that is often found only in cliffs and canyons. But the hills were worn away by an ancient river that deposited mud-stone, silt stone and shale over time. Each layer of vibrant earth provides a surreal contrast to the basin's modern plant species such as sage bushes, grass and juniper trees.
Depending on the time of year, plant life may be as colorful and surprising as paint desert. Many grasslands interspersed between yellow and green grass, depending on the weather, but with the right conditions will cover red grass throughout the plains. The color changes are most prominent in late spring and fall, but can also occur during the rainy season.
