Rising Sun police chief killed in crash

Chief David P. Hewitt, 49, was involved in a single vehicle crash at 7:20 a.m. along State Road 56 near Spring Branch Road in Switzerland County. Hewitt was the driver, according to the release. He was flown from the scene but died at Carroll Co. Memorial Hospital in Carrollton, Kentucky. Icy road conditions are believed to have been a factor, according to the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office, the agency investigating the crash.
