Mass Reading Reflection for Tuesday, March 18, 2025
Second Week of Lent (Year B) is Matthew 23:1-12, with the first reading from Isaiah 1:10, 16-20 and Psalm 50:8-9, 16bc-17, 21, 23.

“O Jesus, today’s Gospel unmasks the scribes—‘They preach, but do not practice,’ Thou warnest. Bishop Sheen quipped, ‘Hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue—yet it fools no one.’ Isaiah cries to Sodom’s kin, ‘Wash yourselves clean,’ for Thou, O Lord, callest us to deeds, not words. St. Charbel, pure in his hermitage, bids you match your lips with your life this day. The Lord saith, ‘He who exalts himself shall be humbled’—pride topples, but lowliness lifts you high. Shun the show of piety, for Thou, O Lord, seest the heart’s quiet truth. This Lent, let your actions sing louder than your boasts, and so please Him.”
