(How to Subdue the Wicked Desires)

Text: Jeremiah 17:9

Objective: that the brethren understand the inner workings of the individuals’ selfish desires and win over it
Intro:
Define – evil, wicked/ness, hear, subdue, desire, selfish

How Evil is it and How to Subdue it?
1) It is Deeply Seated – Ecc. 8:11
a) “fully set” – not easy to deal with
b) Mark 7:21 – “from within”
c) Jer.17:9 – ‘desperately’
d) Solution: Execute sentence speedily
2) It is Overflowing in abundance of evil - Ec. 9:3
a) “full of evil, and madness”
b) Jer.17:9 – ‘above all things’
c) Solution: Defeat with intense amount of truth, righteousness and good acts
3) It is Thickly Veiled in Hypocrisy – Mat. 23:25
a) “but within” – different inside
b) Jer.17:9 – ‘who can know it’ – hard to discern / detect
c) Solution: Be very truthful and honest specially to the Lord
4) It can be Covetous - 2Peter 2:14
a) “covetous practices”
b) Jer.17:9 – ‘deceitful’
c) Solution: work smart, hard and with all honesty, trust the Lord’s providence
5) It wants to Go Far from the Lord Himself - Heb. 3:12
a) “departing from the living God” – why would anyone want this?
b) Jer.17:9 – ‘desperately wicked’
c) Solution: James 4:8 – Draw nigh/near to the Lord and His work/s
d) Be warned of people who wants to get you far from the Lord

Message/conclusion:
Let us understand the inner workings of the individuals’ selfish desires and win over it
