In many pictures, we see King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William and Kate Middleton inside the car, often without seat belts. Queen Elizabeth II has been seen many times driving without a seat belt; But what is the reason for this?

According to security expert and celebrity bodyguard Michael Chandler, not wearing a seat belt in certain situations is a conscious security decision. According to him, when the security threat against a prominent person is high, the speed of exiting the car is important; Therefore, the seat belt may not be fastened so that important people can get out of the vehicle without delay in an emergency.

Chandler explains to the Daily Mail that the royal family wear seat belts when driving long distances or on highways; But on short journeys, they may avoid wearing seat belts.

Another point is the issues related to the comfort and appearance of the official clothes of the royal family. Chandler says that for men, seat belts can wrinkle ironed shirts, and for women, they can mess up the look of gowns.

Legally, King Charles has "Sovereign (Immunity)", which means he is exempt from prosecution and cannot be prosecuted for traffic violations, but other members of the royal family, such as Prince William and his wife, do not have this exemption. However, Chandler explains that in cases where they are performing official duties or on diplomatic trips, the police will not prosecute them due to diplomatic protection laws.

According to the UK Road Traffic Act, vehicles used for police, fire, ambulance, ceremonial services or official journeys are exempt from seat belt requirements.

For this reason, when we see members of the royal family in cars such as ceremonial Bentleys or royal Range Rovers, they often do not have seat belts because they are covered by these legal exceptions.
