On May 20th 2023 David Esteban Delgado, a Police Officer of the Aventura Police Department located in Aventura, FL was accused of making an unlawful stop and an unlawful detainment after the victims of the arrest filed a complaint. The back story is the victims had visted a mall where Delgado's wife works as a vallet. She had left her phone in their car and made arrangements with the victims to get it back. Officer Delgado instead took matters into his own hands, when he used his phone to track where his wife's phone was and unlawfully stopped and detained the victims over the matter. He drew and pointed his firearm at the victims including arresting one of them and throwing them against the police crusier. Once he retrieved the phone, he released the victims and left the scene.

A few days later once the complaint was filed, Delgado was put on leave and eventually suspended without pay after being arrested and charged with the incident.

On December 12th 2023 Delgado was found guilty by jury of all 5 charges he was facing. As of February 2024 he is awaiting sentencing but faces up to  a maximum of 21 years in prison.

You are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
