The video shows the Bukhtarma River in the Altai region of northern Kazakhstan. The ice on it was blown up to protect people and their homes from floods.

In spring, ice can accumulate in narrow places in the river, creating blockages - water cannot flow freely, the level rises, and flooding begins. Blasting helps break up the ice so that it moves downstream faster and does not interfere with the water.
