Book Recommendation of the Day
On Christian Doctrine: St. Augustine, guidelines for interpreting Scripture.
Epistle: 1 Thessalonians 4:1-7
"For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you should abstain from fornication; that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, like the Gentiles that know not God." (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5)
Reflection: The Call to Holiness
Saint Paul exhorts the Thessalonians and us to pursue holiness, avoiding impurity and worldly passions. In a time when morality is increasingly compromised, this passage reminds us that God’s law does not change.
1. Sanctification as God's Will
o The will of God is not arbitrary but directed toward our sanctification. Holiness is not optional; it is our vocation.
o The modern world promotes self-indulgence, but the Christian is called to master his body ("his vessel") and live in purity.
2. Fornication and Moral Purity
o The dangers of impurity are not new. Even in St. Paul’s time, societies normalized sexual immorality.
o Traditional Catholic teaching warns that impurity darkens the soul, weakens the will, and distances one from God. The virtue of chastity is essential for those who seek God’s kingdom.
3. Contrast with the Pagan World
o The world does not know God and therefore lives in moral corruption. Catholics, however, are called to be in the world but not of it (John 17:14-16).
o This Lenten season is a time to examine our lives and remove any impurity that hinders our relationship with God.
In summary, this passage calls us to reject worldly passions, embrace purity, and live as true children of God.

Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9: The Transfiguration
"And after six days, Jesus taketh unto Him Peter and James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up into a high mountain apart: and He was transfigured before them." (Matthew 17:1-2)
Reflection: A Foretaste of Christ’s Glory
The Transfiguration reveals Christ’s divine nature and prefigures the glory of the Resurrection.
Ascending the Mountain: A Call to Spiritual Elevation
o Christ leads Peter, James, and John up the mountain, just as He calls us to rise above earthly concerns.
o Traditional Catholic spirituality often associates mountains with divine encounters Moses on Sinai, Elijah on Carmel, and now the apostles on Mount Tabor.
o This reminds us that prayer, penance, and detachment from the world elevate the soul toward God.
2. The Glorious Vision: Christ’s Divinity Unveiled
o The appearance of Moses (the Law) and Elijah (the Prophets) signifies that Christ fulfills both.
o The dazzling light of His glory foreshadows our transformation in Heaven.
o The presence of the bright cloud echoes the Shekinah, the cloud that overshadowed the Tabernacle in the Old Testament, a sign of God’s presence.
3. The Voice of the Father: "Hear Ye Him"
o This is the second time the Father audibly confirms Christ’s divine Sonship (the first being at His Baptism).
o These words serve as a rebuke to the world, which rejects Christ's teachings and invents its own morality.
o We must hear and obey Christ not only acknowledging His divine authority but following His commands without compromise.
4. A Lenten Lesson: The Cross Before the Glory
o The apostles are given this glimpse of glory before the Passion, preparing them for the trials ahead.
o Likewise, in our Lenten journey, we must first carry the cross before we receive the crown.
o This passage reminds us not to lose hope during suffering, for the Resurrection follows the Passion.

Spiritual Themes of @nd Sunday
1. Joy in the Midst of Penance
o Just as the apostles saw Christ’s glory before the Passion, we glimpse the joy of Heaven before Easter.
2. The Necessity of Purity and Obedience
o The Epistle warns against moral corruption, while the Gospel exhorts us to listen to Christ without compromise.
o Our path to sanctification requires purity, detachment, and fidelity to God’s law.
3. Hope in the Promise of Glory
o Christ’s Transfiguration reminds us of our ultimate destiny to be transformed in glory.
o Lent is a time of struggle, but it is a preparation for the joy of Easter and, ultimately, Heaven.

Conclusion & Prayer
As we continue our Lenten journey, let us:
• practice penance.
• Trust in God’s providence, knowing He will provide for our spiritual and material needs.
• Prepare our hearts for the Holy Eucharist, recognizing Christ as our sustenance.
Let us pray:
"O merciful Lord, as we journey through this season of Lent, grant us the grace to rejoice in the hope of Your Resurrection. Help us to trust in Your providence, as You fed the multitude and nourish our souls through the Most Holy Eucharist. Through the intercession of St. Heribert and St. Julian, may we remain steadfast in faith and grow in charity. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Thank you for joining today’s reflection. May God bless you and grant you the grace to continue in faith, hope, and love!
