Daily Tunes: RFK Took My Twinkies Away

For today's Daily Tune I'm playing a parody I made up derived from The Ramones song "The KKK Took My Baby Away".

"RFK Took My Twinkies Away" is my acoustic parody of The Ramones' classic "The KKK Took My Baby Away," written by Joey Ramone and released on their 1981 album *Pleasant Dreams* via Sire Records. The original punk rock track tells a quirky tale of a guy whose girlfriend vanishes on her way to L.A. for the holidays, supposedly taken by the Ku Klux Klan, with a desperate plea to call the President and FBI to find her. Rumors swirl about its inspiration—some say Joey wrote it after Johnny Ramone "stole" his girlfriend Linda (later Johnny’s wife), while others, like Joey’s brother Mickey Leigh, claim it predates that drama, tied instead to Joey’s breakup with an African-American girlfriend due to parental disapproval. Whatever the truth, its catchy G Major riffs (shifting to A Major) and 4/4 beat make it a Ramones gem. My version swaps the KKK for RFK and a girl for Twinkies—hope both sides of the aisle can get a chuckle out of this one!
