Piano arrangement in G. Originally recorded by Joe Day.

As I explain in some detail in the tutorial, this version of the song is what I understand to be a "mistake" version performed Resurrection Sunday, 2011 by the worship team that was part of Mars Hill Church, a megachurch pastored by Mark Driscoll. I much prefer this version to the original, but there are some parts of the original that I am beginning to appreciate little by little as I listen to it more.

It was in 2017 that I first taught the 2011 Mars Hill version to a worship team that was part of a different ministry than where I am currently. Not until I finished teaching it did I let them hear the original version. I taught it backward, starting with the chorus at the end of the song. They loved the ending chorus, so much so that even after we secured the church door and walked out to their vehicles, they were still singing! So, a practice or two later, I showed the tenors how their bridge went, "Oh, the bloodshed, oh, the last breath," and they liked it so much they asked to do it twice. In very short order, the team unanimously asked to learn the rest of the song, so I taught them. Only after they were solid in their grasp of the music did I finally let them hear the recordings, the 2011 Mars Hill version, then the original version by Joe Day. They immediately understood why I'd hidden it from them!

But I won't hide it from you! You may even prefer it. The 2011 Maars Hill version is included toward the end of the tutorial, after my piano demo. You can listen to Joe Day's version here:
