I don’t know what compels me to tell stories and I don’t even know if you like them. But I do like telling them.

When growing up in the middle of Kansas. If you were to draw an X on this mostly rectangular state. Where X would cross its axis that is approximately where I grew on a gentleman’s farm. North of Hutchinson and a little West of Nickerson Rural Route 1.

A gentleman’s acre, 1950-1960s, was a name for every man to go back to the land. Get a Fordson Tractor to begin to till the land.

My Parents caught the fever to go back the land, because both of their families were ‘farm people.’

We had a dog growing up, his name was Chip. He originally was my older brother’s dog but he went in the Navy during Vietnam. Not the dog, but my brother went into the Navy.

Chip looked to be a cross between a coyote and a long hair collie. His nose was dead on, he could smell out a ferret pretty quickly.

We got the idea, probably from some TV show. We were pretty invested into Television in those days.

For one us, my younger brother or I, to go hide. While the other held Chip. Counting to one hundred; the let Chip go.

In less than the count of 100 Chip would find the one hiding!
