AG Pam Bondi Declares War on Tesla Vandals, Threatens Severe Criminal Charges
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has launched an investigation into a recent surge in vandalism targeting Tesla cars, dealerships, and charging stations, warning that perpetrators could face up to 20 years in prison.
"They are targeting Tesla dealerships, the stations where you charge a Tesla. They're vandalizing cars. I have already directed an investigation to be opened to determine how this is being funded and who is behind it," Bondi stated during an interview on Mornings with Maria on Friday. "We have people we're locking up for this."
Tesla owners and facilities across the country have been attacked by vandals and protesters, seemingly in response to CEO Elon Musk’s involvement with the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This department is focused on eliminating wasteful spending and fraud within the federal government.
On Saturday, protesters gathered outside Tesla dealerships, holding signs condemning Musk and DOGE, with demonstrations occurring in Decatur, Georgia, according to The Associated Press (AP). Earlier in the week, a Tesla dealership in Oregon, located 10 miles south of Portland, was targeted by gunfire, damaging multiple vehicles and shattering windows.
Several Tesla charging stations in Massachusetts have also been set on fire. Meanwhile, non-violent demonstrations have taken place at Tesla dealerships in Michigan and New York City.
Musk has publicly blamed left-wing billionaire George Soros, Democratic mega-donor and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and others for allegedly funding the protests.
"We have someone in jail right now from one of the dealerships. They threw a Molotov cocktail through a dealership. They're looking at up to 20 years in prison," Bondi revealed.
"So if you're going to touch a Tesla, go to a dealership, do anything – you better watch out, because we're coming after you," the AG continued. "And if you're funding this, we're coming after you. We're going to find out who you are."
Tesla has faced additional challenges recently, with shares plummeting approximately 32% in the past month. However, the stock saw a slight rebound following President Donald Trump’s public endorsement, where he announced his intention to purchase a Tesla on the White House lawn on Tuesday.
Anti-Musk sentiments have also been observed on Tesla vehicles, with some featuring bumper stickers that read, "I bought this before we knew Elon was crazy," as well as red, circular cancel symbols with Musk’s name in the center.
As the investigation unfolds, the federal government appears poised to take decisive action against those involved in the attacks, whether directly or financially supporting them.
