Lenten Perseverance: Trusting in God's
We continue our Lenten journey with the scripture readings reflections on the saints of the day, and meditations on God’s justice, perseverance in suffering, and trust in divine providence.
As we enter this sacred time, let us open our hearts to the wisdom of Holy Scripture and the lives of the saints.
Epistle: Genesis 37:6-22
"Behold, the dreamer cometh. Come, let us kill him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams."
🔹 Reflection:
This passage recounts the betrayal of Joseph by his brothers, which foreshadows the betrayal of Christ by His own people.
• Jealousy Leads to Sin – Joseph’s brothers were blinded by envy, leading them to sin against their own kin.
• Suffering as Part of God’s Plan – Although Joseph was thrown into the cistern, God would later raise him to power to save many.
• A Foreshadowing of Christ’s Passion – Just as Joseph was sold for silver, Christ would be betrayed by Judas for thirty pieces of silver.
Lent is a time to examine our hearts:
• Do I harbor jealousy or resentment toward others?
• Do I trust in God’s providence when I suffer injustice?
• Can I see how God brings good out of suffering?

Gospel: Matthew 21:33-46
"The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner."
🔹 Reflection:
Christ tells the parable of the vineyard, where the landowner sends servants (the prophets) and finally his son (Christ Himself), but they are rejected and killed.
• Christ is the Cornerstone – Though rejected, He becomes the foundation of salvation.
• The Danger of Hardening Our Hearts – The Pharisees refused to recognize Christ’s authority.
• God’s Justice Will Prevail – The wicked will face divine justice, but those who trust in the Lord will be saved.
During Lent, we must ask:
• Do I recognize Christ as the true foundation of my life?
• Am I receptive to the truth, or do I resist it when it challenges me?
• Do I trust that God’s justice will be fulfilled in His perfect time?

St. Matilda (†968 A.D.) – Model of Humility and Charity
• Queen of Germany, known for her deep piety, humility, and care for the poor.
• After her husband’s death, she was unjustly accused by her own children but bore the suffering with patience and forgiveness.
• Lessons from St. Matilda:
o Forgiveness in Trials – She never sought vengeance but prayed for those who wronged her.
o Trust in God’s Justice – In the end, her innocence was recognized, and she was restored.
2. St. Lazarus of Milan (†5th Century) – Defender of the Faith
• Bishop of Milan, stood against heresies and upheld Catholic doctrine.
• Defended the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist, reminding us of the importance of devotion to the Blessed Sacrament.
• Lessons from St. Lazarus:
o Remain firm in the faith, even when others oppose us.
o Honor the Holy Eucharist as the source of strength in trials.

Themes of the Day
1. Trust in God's Providence Amid Suffering: Like Joseph and St. Matilda, we must endure trials with faith, knowing that God’s justice will prevail.
2. Christ as the Cornerstone – The rejection of Christ by men does not diminish His authority—He remains our foundation.
3. Defending the Faith in Difficult Times – St. Lazarus teaches us that standing for truth will bring opposition, but we must remain steadfast.

Conclusion & Prayer
As we continue our Lenten journey, let us:
• Trust in God's justice, even when we are wronged.
• Persevere in faith, knowing that suffering can lead to greater glory.
• Forgive those who wrong us, as St. Matilda did, and stand firm in Catholic truth, like St. Lazarus.
Let us pray:
"O Lord, in times of suffering and injustice, grant us the patience of Joseph and the trust of St. Matilda. May we stand firm in the faith, as St. Lazarus did, and never reject the truth You have revealed to us. Strengthen us this Lent, that we may embrace the crosses You allow for our sanctification. Through Christ our Lord. Amen."
Thank you for joining today’s reflection. May God bless you and strengthen you during this holy season
