In a landslide, Mark Carney has won the leadership of Canada's Liberal Party. Carney is now poised to become Canada's next Prime Minister, but he has never held elected office and does not have a seat in Canada's Parliament.

Before entering politics, Carney held senior, lucrative positions at Goldman Sachs. He then served as Governor of the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England.

What does Carney's record tell us about the kind of Prime Minister that he would be?

In the latest episode of The Global Economy Report on Reason2Resist, Dimitri Lascaris spoke with Professor Costas Lapavitsas about Mark Carney's credentials and ideological orientation.

Lapavitsas is a professor of economics at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London. He was elected as a member of the Hellenic Parliament for the Syriza party in the January 2015 general election. In that election, Syriza ran on a platform of opposition to austerity. In the summer of 2015, however, after former Greek PM Alexis Tsipras capitulated to the demands for new and harsher austerity from Greece’s creditors, Costas defected from Syriza.
