China’s first wholly foreign-owned hospital opened on February 26, 2025, in the northern city of Tianjin. The Perennial General Hospital, funded by a Singapore company, has an international department providing customised healthcare options for “high-end customers”. China started allowing some hospitals to be completely owned by overseas investors in November 2024. The opening of the Tianjin facility comes as China broadens efforts to attract foreign investors.
