Former ICE Acting Director and Border Czar Tom Homan launched harsh criticism against New York Governor Kathy Hochul for her immigration policies and restrictions on cooperation with federal agencies. Homan noted that Hochul's decisions to block ICE and CBP access to the DMV database have weakened the agents' ability to enforce the law and fight crime.

“ICE and CBP agents can't access DMV data because she blocked it.... So, I'm here to criticize her for her sanctuary policies,” Homan stated forcefully. According to him, these policies have turned New York into a haven for illegal immigrants with criminal records, jeopardizing the safety of citizens.

So-called “sanctuary cities,” such as New York, have been the subject of controversy for offering protection to illegal immigrants by prohibiting local agencies from cooperating with the federal government in their detention and deportation. Homan argued that this lack of cooperation allows dangerous criminals to remain on the streets instead of being removed from the country.

In addition, the former official reiterated that the Biden Administration has failed to maintain border security, allowing an uncontrolled flow of migrants that has overburdened the resources of states and cities. He asserted that the current immigration crisis is a direct consequence of Democratic policies, such as those implemented by Hochul, and that the only solution is a return to strict border control measures.

Homan's statements come at a time of growing tension between the federal government and jurisdictions that have adopted sanctuary policies. While some defend these measures as a way to protect vulnerable communities, critics like Homan insist that they are compromising national security and the rule of law.
