Chair of Saint Peter

February 22 we celebrate the Feast of the Chair of Saint Peter. At first this may sound strange. Are we celebrating a chair that Saint Peter had? While having a chair that we knew Saint Peter sat in and taught from would be a wonderful relic but isn’t it still just a chair? Yes it would a 2nd class relic which is something owned by a saint but that isn’t what we are talking about. What we are celebrating here is the unity of the Catholic Church and the living symbol of that unity which exists in the office of the Pope, the Vicar of Christ.
