The Politics of Comedy: Sirius/XM, Spotify, & Pandora

We hear a lot about how Spotify doesn’t pay artists; you need a billion spins in order to earn a dollar.

Pandora is pretty much the same, but Sirius/XM, damn.

I used to earn a couple hundred bucks a month from them.

Enough to retire on?

Oh, lord no.

But it was a nice bump to the income; enough to fill the tank with gas a bunch, or buy a couple weeks worth of groceries.

And, with the snap of fingers, it disappeared.

And, I kinda blame me.

I knew signing on with a company that promised “MORE” was a bad idea.

I really did.

But, as stated, so many other comedians signed on, I felt it had to be on the up and up.

I even reached out to a couple more well-established comics to get their thoughts.

Everyone was in agreement: it’s a good idea.

So, I ignored my inner voice, and went for it.

And, now I’ve got no bonus income.

Huzzah.
