House Passes GOP Measure to Avert Government Shutdown

The House narrowly approved a stopgap measure to keep the government funded through September, passing the bill 217-213.

The legislation increases defense and veterans’ healthcare spending while reducing non-defense funding and adding more resources for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The bill now heads to the Senate, where it requires Democratic support for passage.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries criticized the measure as a partisan bill, while some House Republicans were initially hesitant but ultimately supported it, CBS News has reported.

President Trump and Vice President JD Vance lobbied for votes, with hard-liners backing the stopgap as a shift from typical government funding practices.
