State Senator Werner, County Attorney Mitchell to Host Press Conference
in Support of SB 1437 to Protect Children in Arizona's K-12 Schools

PHOENIX, ARIZONA— Members of the media are invited to join State Senator Carine Werner (R-4),
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, and lawmakers from both the House and Senate at a press conference
Wednesday to discuss legislation to crack down on sexual predators in Arizona's K-12 schools.
Since the 1995 creation of an investigative unit within the State Board of Education to examine complaints of
unprofessional or immoral conduct by educators, sexual predation has been the single largest category of
misconduct reported. In 2023 alone, 39% of all cases investigated were sexual misconduct cases. SB 1437 aims
to protect students and ensure sexual predators are brought to justice.
The lawmakers and the county attorney will be joined by child safety advocates as well as families of victims.
Speakers will take relevant questions at the conclusion of their remarks
