Romania’s Constitutional Court has blocked far-right candidate Călin Georgescu from running in the May presidential election rerun, despite protests from him and his supporters.

Georgescu’s candidacy was rejected by the Central Electoral Bureau after allegations of campaign violations and undeclared financing, including the use of digital technologies.

Georgescu appealed, but the court upheld the decision, prompting protests outside the court.

Georgescu criticized the decision, accusing Romania of being under dictatorship.

The ruling is likely to face backlash from supporters, including figures from the Trump administration, Politico has reported.

The presidential election is set for May, with candidates required to file by March 19.
