On this day in Jewish Synagogues the story of Esther is read and contemplated. Great food and drink, it is a celebration. But the main theme of the celebration is the book of Esther. Many things are noteworthy in the book of Esther. One is that the LORD will care for HIS people.
An interesting side fact: Esther is the only book in the Bible that does not mention the name GOD or LORD. Yet there is no book in the Scriptures, the TANACH that better shows the hand of GOD at work to accomplish HIS good pleasure.
King Xerxes has a Queen that embarrasses him during a feast. Her Persian name was Vashti = beautiful. During a feast that the King had ordered, she was commanded by the King to dance for his guests and she refuses. What exactly she was asked to do we do not know…but her refusal greatly embarrasses the King. Right or wrong, she is relieved of her duties as Queen. Most interpret that as she was put to death.
The King truly loves Esther and she becomes the Queen. However, she hides one big fact from the King… she is Jewish. The Kings number 1 man is named Haman and he hates the Jews. Haman is a decedent of Esau and through that line a decedent of King Agag. Haman was from Persia and that is Iran today. So the entire book has many relevant points on issues that exist today.
