When asked about The Associated Press report questioning the tariffs implemented by President Trump and claiming that he is proposing tax increases in the form of tariffs, Karoline Leavitt responded:

"He is actually not implementing tax increases. Tariffs are a tax increase on foreign countries that, again, have been ripping us off. Tariffs are a tax cut for the American people. And the president is a strong advocate for tax cuts. As you know, he campaigned on not taxing tips, no taxes on overtime, no taxes on Social Security benefits. He is committed to those three things and hopes Congress will pass them later this year."

But then, the reporter insisted and asked Leavitt if she had ever paid a tariff, questioning her knowledge of economics, to which Karoline Leavitt responded: "Ultimately, when we have fair and balanced trade—which the American people have not seen in decades, as I said at the beginning—revenues will stay here, wages will rise, and our country will be wealthy again.

And I think it's insulting that you're trying to test my knowledge of economics and the decisions this president has made. I now regret asking a question to The Associated Press."
