SE4PARKES005 WTF Wednesday March 12 – “A career in Politics? Ah, noooo!”

The first in the “WTF Wednesday” videos as part of the Paddock Podium series - Our effort to keep politics real and our quest for change interesting! Rural Australia is built on hard work, determination, a fair dose of Aussie slang and inevitably the ability to have a good laugh at yourself!

Firstly – to those who have chipped in to support our Quest for Change, thank you so much. Every $ helps. A big heartfelt thanks from Team Parkes. Every dollar donated to the Parkes campaign WILL go to spreading the word across Parkes – posters/corflutes, flyers and advertising. Trust that this campaign is not backed by big donors, but by everyday Mums and Dads, Small Businesses, Farmers and concerned community members - who all want to see positive change for Regional Australia.

Today’s WTF moment has come from a few people congratulating me on my step into politics, on my “budding career” in politics, and to me that is a big “WTF?”and “ah, noooo!!”

I thought I would share why. If I influence anything through this endeavour, I would love nothing more that in to be the beginning of the end for career politicians, those that work their way up through the party system. Didn’t Abraham Lincoln say “democracy is a government of the people, by the people, and for the people”? Let us not forget these wise words. The future representatives and leaders of Australia should be coming from the people among us, people with life skills, experience, leadership qualities, common sense and a good dose of humility too. That is how we guide ourselves back to a true democratic government and how we can fix the wrong-doings of the past. I hope one day to be representing Regional Australia, beside other passionate and committed Australians that wholeheartedly believe this too.
