Five years ago, Doechii posted a video titled “I Got Fired, Thank God.” Today, she’s holding a Grammy for Best Rap Album—a true testament to the power of perseverance, belief, and trusting the process.

Back in 2020, before the fame, before the awards, Doechii (Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon) lost her job. Instead of letting it break her, she saw it as a blessing. In that viral clip, she said:

"So, I got fired today."

But instead of drowning in self-doubt, she made a plan—to hit the studios, chase opportunities, and bet on herself.

Fast forward to the 2025 Grammy Awards: Doechii made history. 🏆 She won Best Rap Album for Alligator Bites Never Heal, becoming only the third Black female artist to win the category after Lauryn Hill and Cardi B. She also earned nominations for Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance.
