Ontario Premier Doug Ford addresses reporters at Queen’s Park to announce a pause on the 25 per cent surcharge on electricity exports to three U.S. states. The move comes following a conversation between Premier Ford and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. Earlier in the day, U.S. President Trump threatened an increase on Canadian steel and aluminum tariffs to 50 per cent in response to the Ontario’s electricity surtax. Ford tells reporters he will travel to Washington on Thursday with federal Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc to meet with Lutnick and other U.S. officials to discuss the ongoing trade war.
