Imhotep was an ancient Egyptian polymath who was later deified as a god of medicine. Asclepius was the ancient Greek god of medicine and healing. It is known that the Nile Valley African civilization had a strong influence on early Greek Minoan and Mycenaean seed cultures. The Cult of Asclepius was one of the most enduring cults of classical antiquity, with hundreds of shrines spread across Italy, Greece, the eastern Mediterranean, and North Africa.
