Large columns of black smoke were seen at the scene in the North Sea following the collision of an oil tanker and a cargo vessel.

A US military spokesman said the Stena Immaculate tanker was on a short charter to the US military's sea lift command when it was struck by a cargo ship, releasing jet fuel into the water.

The cargo ship was carrying Sodium Cyanide.
