What is the Roth IRA? A Roth IRA is a tax-advantaged individual retirement account where you can grow your wealth tax free...provided you stick to the rules!

Who can open a Roth IRA? Anyone with earned income. After you've paid tax, put money into this account, pick investments inside this account, and enjoy the gains with absolutely no tax owed.

The long-term stock market return adjusted for inflation and dividends is 7%, which compounds to over $2 million if you invest just $19/day or $7,000/year from age 20 to age 65.

Be careful! To avoid penalties and taxes, you should have opened your first Roth IRA account for at least 5 years and ideally be 59.5 years old or more to withdraw your earnings without paying tax. But you can withdraw the principal (what you put in) at any time.

Higher income earners will be phased out from contributing to a Roth IRA once your modified adjusted gross income exceeds a threshold (2025: $150k-$165k for singles, $236k-$246k for those filing jointly). You are also limited by how much you can contribute each year (2025: $7k for under 50, $8k for over 50, or $14k-$16k for those filing jointly).

All hope is not lost! A backdoor Roth or rich person's Roth will allow higher income earners still contribute to a Roth IRA. See the video for more!
