March 11 Western Reserve Shipwreck Found

After 132 years, the shipwreck of the 300’ steel steamer Western Reserve has been located around 60 miles northwest of Whitefish Point in Lake Superior. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society used Marine Sonic Technology side-scan radar to discover the wreck in late summer 2024. Strong gales overtook the ship and sunk it Aug. 30, 1892.
