In this episode of Melton’s on the Move, we're exploring Cozumel beyond the typical tourist spots, showing you where to find authentic Mexican food that you won’t get in the crowded tourist areas. This time, we’re visiting Taqueria Molina to experience some of the best, off-the-beaten-path flavors on the island. If you're looking for real, traditional Mexican food while in Cozumel, this hidden gem is definitely worth the extra few steps!

Located away from the tourist hustle, Taqueria Molina offers a unique dining experience that takes you back to Mexico’s culinary roots. We’re trying a variety of dishes, each more delicious and unique than the last, so stick around to see why we think this place should be on your food bucket list.

What we tried at Taqueria Molina:

Gorditas: A must-try Mexican staple! These thick, corn tortillas are stuffed with fillings that range from meats to vegetables. We loved their verde salsa, which was mild and fresh. But, be cautious with their rojo salsa – it packs a serious punch of spice!

Conchita Pibil: This traditional dish is a standout. Conchita Pibil is slow-cooked, marinated pork wrapped in banana leaves and cooked in a traditional underground pit, or pib. The blend of achiote, cinnamon, and allspice gives it a rich, smoky flavor that is absolutely irresistible.

Chicharrón: A crispy favorite – Chicharrón is a dish made with pork rinds drenched in salsa verde, which gives it a tangy, savory kick. If you’ve never tried it, it’s a must for any Mexican food lover!

Pollo a la Mexicana: A simple, traditional dish, but it wasn’t as impressive as the others. The flavors were fine, but it didn't quite match the boldness of the other offerings at Taqueria Molina.

Alambre de Pollo: Think chicken fajitas, but even better! Grilled chicken paired with vibrant vegetables – peppers, onions, and more – make this a delicious and satisfying dish.

Nopales Gordita: The final dish we tried was a unique one! Nopales are the paddles of the prickly pear cactus, and they have a tart, citrusy flavor. Combined in a gordita, it’s a fresh and exciting twist on a traditional dish.

If you're visiting Cozumel and want to explore authentic, local food off the tourist radar, Taqueria Molina is the place to be. Walk those extra few steps inland, and you’ll be rewarded with some of the best, freshest Mexican food you’ll find on the island.
