Russia’s Glide Bombs Are Nearly Impossible for Ukraine to Stop

Russia has intensified its use of glide bombs against Ukrainian frontline troops, targeting military positions and cities with devastating precision.

These Soviet-era FAB bombs, upgraded with UMPK kits, allow for high-altitude, difficult-to-intercept strikes. The FAB-500, FAB-1500, and FAB-3000 have been deployed, with over 700 bombs dropped weekly.

Ukraine faces challenges in countering them due to their stealthy nature, but experts suggest targeting Russian aircraft or airbases as the best strategy.

While Patriot missiles and ATACMS could help, U.S. aid uncertainty complicates Ukraine’s defenses. However, Ukraine has managed to disrupt Russian satellite guidance and may strengthen its air capabilities with F-16s and Swedish AEW&C aircraft, offering a potential way to counter future glide bomb attacks.
