A new study reveals that gender-affirming surgeries may worsen mental health

A recent study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine has raised concerns about the effects of gender-affirming surgeries on the mental health of those who undergo them. Contrary to the narrative promoted by advocates of these medical interventions, the findings suggest that instead of alleviating psychological distress, these surgeries may be contributing to a deterioration in patients' mental health.

The study analyzed data from more than 107,000 individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria and found that those who opted for surgical procedures had a higher incidence of depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and substance abuse disorders. In contrast, patients who did not undergo surgery showed better emotional well-being and psychological stability. This challenges the premise that these surgical interventions are necessary to improve the quality of life for transgender individuals.

Despite these alarming results, the study's authors avoided questioning the validity of these procedures and instead argued that negative effects could be mitigated with post-surgical mental health treatment. However, this stance omits a crucial question: if surgeries truly helped patients, why the need for continuous and, in many cases, intensified psychological support?

Gender ideology advocates have aggressively promoted gender-affirming surgeries as a remedy for gender dysphoria while ignoring studies like this that reveal significant adverse effects. Furthermore, these surgeries have been pushed even for minors, despite growing evidence that they may cause irreversible harm and fail to deliver on their promise of well-being.

The implications of this study are profound. If surgical procedures do not improve mental health and instead seem to exacerbate psychological issues, then the medical community must seriously reevaluate its stance on these treatments. Science is beginning to debunk the claims of gender ideology, and history may harshly judge those who promoted these procedures without considering their true consequences.

It is imperative that health policymakers and society at large pay attention to these findings. People experiencing gender dysphoria deserve a treatment approach based on evidence, not ideological narratives. This study could mark the beginning of a necessary shift in how this complex reality is addressed.
