D.C. (Dist. of Criminals), March 9, 2025 — Law enforcement is investigating an overnight shooting near the White House after U.S. Secret Service agents opened fire on an armed suspect in a tense confrontation just after midnight.

The suspect, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, according to a law enforcement source.

Officials say local police tipped off the Secret Service about a suicidal individual traveling from Indiana to D.C. Agents later spotted a man matching the description just one block away from the White House, near his parked vehicle.

“When officers walked up to him, he brandished a firearm, and an armed confrontation followed, during which shots were fired by our personnel,” the Secret Service stated.

No Secret Service officers were injured in the encounter.

The Metropolitan Police Department has taken the lead in the investigation.

Past Incidents at the White House
This is not the first security scare near the White House. During Trump’s first term in August 2020, Secret Service agents shot another man outside the White House gates while Trump was speaking to reporters. That suspect was later found to have been holding a comb, not a weapon, and was committed to a psychiatric hospital.

This time, President Trump was in West Palm Beach, Florida, when the shooting occurred and is scheduled to return to D.C. tonight.

As the investigation unfolds, questions remain about the suspect’s motives and whether law enforcement could have de-escalated the situation before shots were fired.
