What's behind Trump's flip flop on Ukraine-Russia war?

After pausing military aid to Kyiv last week, U.S. President Donald Trump – in what seems to be a sudden reversal of opinion – announced Friday that he is now “strongly considering” enforcing sanctions and tariffs against Russia as it ramps up its offensive in Ukraine.

Earlier in the week, Trump said “he is finding it more difficult to deal with Ukraine” following a heated meeting with President Volodomyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office. The Republican leader was upset that Zelenskyy was not more “thankful” about the aid his country has received.

Trump’s administration was gearing up to broker peace talks between Russia and Ukraine in exchange for critical minerals from the latter. The deal, however, never came to be after the drama unfolded at the White House.
