Chris Barnard says the US regulatory regime is stifling nuclear energy innovation

American Conservation Coalition President Chris Barnard says over regulation of the nuclear industry is why the United States has only built two nuclear plants over the last thirty years. “We have a Nuclear Regulatory Commission that doesn’t even have in its mandate the desire to build more nuclear plants,” he says. “They just want to prevent anything bad from happening, but in doing so they make it impossible to build these things. And the reality is that we need to get back to a simpler, more streamlined approach to this issue.
