Phoenix, AZ - Newly released edited body-camera video shows how Phoenix police tried to get a suspect to come out of a recycling bin two weeks ago, but it ended in a deadly gun fight.

It all started when an officer said he spotted 31-year-old Dominic Gracia speeding in the neighborhood of 15th Avenue and Vineyard Road, which is north of Baseline Road, on Feb. 19.

He tried to pull Gracia over, but he got out of the truck while it was still moving and ran into the community. The truck kept rolling toward a house.

“He just bailed out 16th drive,” the officer told dispatch. “He’s going uh, westbound, sorry, southbound from, uh 16th drive and (location redacted). I have to stop the vehicle. He started ghost riding it.”

Officers used K-9s to search the area and found Gracia hiding in a large recycling bin on the side of a house.

Police said they demanded Gracia get out of the bin, but when he refused, they fired pepperballs at the bin.

He then lifted the lid, showed his foot and closed the lid.

Police said they tried to talk Gracia out of the bin for about five minutes, and they used pepper balls to try to get him out.

“Hey! Show me your hands!” one officer said in the body-cam video.

An officer then fired a 40mm less-lethal launcher at the bin.

“Hey! Put your hands up!” an officer yelled.

Gracia then stuck his arm out and fired one shot at officers, investigators said.

Two officers returned fire, shooting and killing Gracia.

“Get cover! Get cover!” an officer yelled.

They fired at least 12 rounds.

“Reloaded! Reloaded!” an officer said. “Everyone good?”

No one officers were hurt.
