East Hartford, CT - A driver who told state police they were "intentionally driving the wrong direction" on Route 5/15 in East Hartford on Wednesday evening is now facing DUI and driving violation charges.

Connecticut State Police received 911 calls around 8:30 p.m. for a report of a wrong-way driver on Route 5/15. State police determined the driver entered the off-ramp the wrong way and went south in the northbound lanes.

Responding troopers found the SUV, and state police dash cam footage showed the SUV stopping on the right shoulder.

The driver, identified as Joshua Halla, 26, of Wethersfield, had admitted to smoking marijuana before driving and said he was "intentionally driving the wrong direction," state police said.

Halla is facing multiple charges, including DUI, reckless driving, driving the wrong way, reckless endangerment and criminal attempt at assault.

He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court later this month.

Halla was not involved in any crashes before stopping the SUV, state police said.
