Rio crowns samba school Beija-Flor champion as Carnival ends

The Beija-Flor samba school on Wednesday (March 5) was crowned champion of the iconic Rio de Janeiro Carnival, marking their 15th title. In this year's parade, the school paid homage to the late Luiz Fernando Ribeiro do Carmo, better known as Laila, the legendary carnival director responsible for most of the school's championships who died in 2021 due to COVID-19.
