THE RISING AND FALLING

"Just as waves arise and fall in the ocean, so too do thoughts arise and fade within the mind."
— The Buddha

The Buddha compares thoughts to waves—constant, shifting, and impermanent. By observing their arising and falling, we begin to see the mind’s true nature: vast, open, and unaffected by the passing currents.

This practice of mindfulness allows us to detach from mental clinging and see our thoughts for what they are—temporary and insubstantial. In doing so, we cultivate peace and understanding.

Take a moment to watch your thoughts as they arise and fade. How might this practice help you find stillness amidst the ever-changing flow of the mind?
