The US Minerals deal has been exposed as a potential decoy to expose a prior deal Ukraine did with Europe, Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer believes the strong words toward Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy Friday in the Oval Office were the result of President Donald Trump and his team finding out "they were being played."

He added that he believes Trump was trying to play a "straight line deal" to sign an agreement on mineral rights, "knowing full well that the British had already signed on this three days before his inauguration."

This means that if the Europeans want the United States to continue helping them support Ukraine, "they're going to have to take a step back and start being honest with the United States about what's going on here."

"The other day when Keir Starmer was in the office, he asked the prime minister, Gee, can you guys beat the Russians on your own? This is all about them finally stepping up and taking responsibility for their own backyard," Shaffer said.

However, the minerals are said to be mainly held in Donetsk, an area under Russian control.

On February 21st, 2022 Russia recognised this region along with Luhansk as sovereign states. Three days later the war started with Russia’s pretext to protect these republics.

Once Russia captured Donetsk it claimed the annexation and called for referendums which were won convincingly in September of that year. However, the opponents commentators called the referendums fraudulent and this led to the aligned UN General Assembly to pass a resolution calling on countries not to recognise what it called illegal annexation.

Voting against was Belarus, North Korea, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria. 35 countries abstained including China, India, South Africa and Pakistan, whilst 143 voted for the resolution including Afghanistan, UK, US, Australia, Canada, Japan, Hungary, Israel, NATO Countries and the rest of the Middle East including BRICS nation, Saudi Arabia.

By comparison, only 68 voted for the rejection of the annexation of Crimea.

Meanwhile, astute commentators have said that Russia may be retreating on its mission to take all of Ukraine despite Putin saying he only wanted the East, which would act as a buffer to NATO, which is a legitimate argument, However the author notes that the Russians took a four pronged attack across Ukraine and have largely not advanced as they originally predicted noting some failures of tanks to advance into Kiev as one such example. The loss of a million Russian soldiers, another.

What does this mean? For Putin to get everything he wants, he needs a strong Trump who has announced no more funding for Ukraine. Whilst Russia appears to be underperforming and Trump appears to be weak, the onus is on Putin to seek a resolution and quickly, all of which means Trump holds all the cards and appears weak, the true Art of War.

Want more proof?
