China revealed details of its response after the US imposed new tariffs on Chinese exports on March 4, 2025. Beijing has added a group of US firms to its export control list, slapped additional tariffs of 10-15 per cent on selected American goods and announced plans to bring a related case to the World Trade Organization over the matter. China’s actions came a day after US President Donald Trump reaffirmed that he would raise tariffs on all Chinese imports to 20 per cent from 10 per cent, allegedly to punish Beijing for failing to halt shipments of chemicals used to make the drug fentanyl.
